Court

We are Parents. The court decreed this afternoon that we are the parents of Jaryd Elijah Huckabee, Jacob Ethyn Huckabee, and Kailyn Elyse Huckabee. Wow from three kids to six kids in two and half hours time. Court was very extensive. He judge read all of the papers to us. He asked us our names, where we live, and why we would like to have three more kids. The judge talked to Jaryd. He told them he wanted to go to America and live with us, his sisters and brothers, and have a lifelong family. He was a little shy, but the judge made him talk to him. He asked him if he was going to represent Ukraine in the Olympics. He said no the United States.
We are going to go and visit with Jacob and Kailyn this afternoon and then pick up Jaryd at 5:00. We will keep him until 8:00.
We are elated. Talk to you more tomorrow. Here are some pictures from court.

Congratulations! What a wonderful day for you! Wow...I haven't heard of too many other court hearings that were as extensive as ours was, but it sounds like we now have some company.I was asked after it was all over how I was feeling and my response was that I felt I had just given birth. I was SOOO happy, but I was also very exhausted.

This sounds very similar to our court experience. We were there for well over three hours. The judge read everything verbatim from the book (the law). He then asked a lot of questions and had our son tell why he wanted to go to America and what he wanted to do with his life. It took a lot of courage for him to trust us, relative strangers at the time, on this one, but he did!

After a stern court hearing with the judge's booming voice and waiting several hours it was over and we were declared a family by the judge. Then. . . he invited us over to his home for dinner the next night! We learned that this was to ensure he was comfortable with his decision as there had been very few adoptions in our region and NEVER one of an older child.

Sounds like you had a long but enduring and good court session. The celebration dinner sounds wonderful! Our driver (whom we got to know well and adore) also lined up our dinner in a nearby town at a restaurant we had to ourselves with authentic home-cooked food. Ah, what memories!

Congrats! We are so happy for you. Our court is Friday - hopefully, short, sweet and to the point.

Are staying in the region for your 10 day wait?
